Yeaph....that's comming
But it will happen like with the DVD + - R/RW, DVD RAM, etc....the latest models most probably will have to add a combination to keep compatibility and sales. With VHS and Beta, the physical tapes were totally incompatible.

But what will make some people mad, is that after building a good collection on HD VHS, Laserdisc or DVD, here comes a newer format with better resolution and capacity costing less, and they will be tempted to buy those movies again....
Technology is too fast in the last years for me....
Don't forget the new format created by Sony.
An HD disc...it's blue I think and more compact than a DVD. But holds much more info.
yeah those blue-ray dvd's hold like 10-20 gigs
what stinks is that it is gonna be a battle in like 5 years
2 or 3 different formats from various companies battleing it out for the top spot
so you'll have to have like 3 players top play all the new movies you want to see
i remember a couple years ago when they tried to get people to jump on board for this.... the public just isn't interested...

Having to produce the same movie for different formats will cost them more, and they have learned from the VHS/Beta wars.
People have invested too much in DVDs. It won't fly for quite some time.
Remember mini-discs?

Stand alone DVD recorders are still pricey too, and they are not as flexible as a VHS. Sure they have better quality and resolution, but you can record an re-record faster in tape than on a DVD.....
I think stuff like this is just coming too fast.
I mean for me, I have over $5000 in DVDs and not even *** equipment - I don't want to have to mosify anything to play the newer ones. I can see the benefits, but it is going to be just like the federal mandate for TV to be broadcast in HD format - it is too expensive and results in the consumer being forced to spend money on items they don't really need or want to to get what they previously had.
